Present And Future Outlook
A solar panel is practically a panel that can produce electricity by using the
sun's energy. A solar panel system can harvest the sunlight and
convert it to electricity than can then be used to power lights
and house appliances. The solar panels that form a solar panel system consist of solar
cells, or photovoltaic cells, that are arranged in a grid-like
pattern on the surface of the panel. Through these photovoltaic
cells the solar panel system collects sunlight during the
daylight hours and coverts it into electricity. The design of
past solar panel systems relied heavily on silicon, which is
also used in computers. Lately however, other materials and
metals have started to be used in the production of a solar
panel system since the cost of silicon is starting to rise since
the competition for this precious material is becoming fierce
and supply is not increasing.
There is another process
through witch solar
panels are made with a different kind of silicon alloy in a
rolling process. A solar panel system using these types of solar panels will be more productive since these panels are
stronger, thinner and can produce more watts of electricity. A
solar panel system such as this could prove very important for
applications that can't be hindered by large weights like solar
cars for example.
When it comes to NASA and the government
sponsored space programs, these use a very expensive type of
solar panel system made up of solar panels made from gallium arsenide via a sophisticated
and expensive procedure. These types of solar cells will produce
a lot of electricity for their size and weight, but they are way
too expensive for anyone else than the government to buy.
Recent discoveries have opened the way for a whole new type of
solar panel system, a system powered by solar panels made from plastic. These solar panels are very promising since they are much cheaper
to produce. As of now there isn't much data on these new types
of solar panels,
but it is thought that these solar panels might be able to power your laptop in a remote
location, or allow you to use a GPS device while spending a lot
of time in the wilderness. Such a plastic solar panel system may
power just about any appliance that one can use at home or in a
remote location.
The amount of power a solar panel system
produces is determined by the quality of the solar panels and the materials and technology used to make
those solar panels.
When you buy a solar panel you expect to pay about four or five dollars a
watt, but this price is sure to start slowly decrease as more
and more companies are starting to research and develop solar
panels.
Currently solar panel systems are very popular in
remote locations and recreation vehicles, but this trend is
starting to change. There are solar panel systems starting to
sprout up in urban areas where clean energy advocates and law
makers are creating incentives for this clean, safe and quiet
alternative energy source. This opens up the possibility of a
future where every housetop will be covered with a solar panel system, thus putting the power in the hands of
the individual property owner.
